Our newly negotiated car park gave the opportunity to start high and have a good look at the amazing Iron Age fort on the summit.
Thanks to those who made the journey to what we think is a special area, I hope you enjoyed your course on a terrain that gave an opportunity for many TD 5 controls.
Having to split and then re-combine White and Yellow routes prompted us to use ‘Smiley faces’ which our young runners enjoyed.
I would like to record extra thanks to Henry Morgan our Controller who worked tirelessly both before and on the day, and to Tony Callow and Peter Jones for help in collecting controls, all 57 of them- I didn’t want you to be in a crowd of runners as happens sometimes!
If you enjoyed Bury Ditches, please tell your fellow club members to come next time we are able to get the area.

Lizard Hill 21/02/16
Lizard Hill is a shooting wood and access to the area is quite restricted so it is quite a challenge, particularly for the planner and controller, to have the access they need in advance of an event.
I feel very fortunate that the weather pattern changed in the couple of weeks leading up to this event, allowing the area to ‘dry out’ a little. We were uncertain about car parking arrangements until the day before, but I had resigned myself to the linear parking option. In reality it had a lot going for it as the verges were firm, even after the heaviest rain over recent weeks, and very wide so that vehicles could be accommodated right off the road.
On the day it was dry and mild, another bonus this season. Some competitors travelled from afar and I hope you all enjoyed Steve’s courses.
My thanks to the Wrekin team of helpers who happily got on with their tasks on the day. I would also like to record thanks, on behalf of Wrekin Orienteers, to Mr Gutteridge, Mr Milner and Mrs Gallagher for allowing us access to the woods and land to enable this event to happen.
