I have a competitive nature and want to win events

Orienteering suits the natural born competitor. It is possible to achieve success at various levels. Firstly work your way through the colour coded courses, achieving a top 5 finish on successive events is a clear indication to move onto the next level. Badge events attract more competitors and you must compete against your own age class.
There are National Events, British Championships and International Events. Orienteering is an extreme sport and tests you to your maximum limit. It is both physically and mentally challenging. The longest course for M21 (Male 21-35 years category) can be over 12km, take one and a half hours to complete and will take place over harsh terrain depending on the area.

I want to improve my fitness for health benefits

It is proven that a brisk walk for 30 minutes on a regular basis can dramatically improve fitness. You can walk or run an orienteering course and complete it in as little as 20 minutes or over an hour.

Wrekin is a friendly club and I would enjoy the social aspects

Orienteering can work up quite a thirst so during our summer events programme we often visit a local watering hole after an event. This is not only to replace lost fluids but also discuss the finer points of navigation and quite why we run around woods and forests in search of little flags. Seems to make more sense after a pint though!?!

Orienteering is not only thirsty work but energy sapping too! Wrekin however doesn't leave its members to starve. We organise a barbeque, balti night and xmas dinner. There's also bonfire night with some fine nosh. Sometimes when we're not stuffing our faces we engage in conversation with each other.

I've always known Sunday mornings should be dedicated to running around forests

Your Sunday mornings feel empty without it. The thought of having a cuppa and reading a Sunday paper while lying under a duvet of at least tog 12 or higher sounds like heresy. From the moment you took the ultimate gamble and escaped the womb on a dodgy southerly compass bearing you have been destined to run around forests, woods and copses of varying sizes in search of small white and red flags. While most of Middle England clean and polish their Mondeo's you apply a thorough coating of mud and often manure to yours by driving in a field that you blatantly have no chance of escaping. You laugh in the face of Sunday roasts and log fires. You evilly chuckle when you jump out of the undergrowth and scare passers by. You laugh more when their dog chases you and they have to run to fetch him. What have you been waiting for? Join Wrekin Orienteers now and fulfill your destiny.

Keep on Running!
