Organisers Report
Firstly, many thanks to all the people that contributed towards staging this event. You know who you are, and most orienteers realise that our sport would struggle to continue otherwise.
The workload for organising this format of competition can best be described as …. silly…. (for the organiser, entries, team captains, also the I.T. team) Some fixing of the entry and start-list generating system in order to reduce the gross level of volunteer time usage and in too many instances, simple avoidable wastage, is urgently required. I will be passing on thoughts on this to the CSC competition co-ordinator.
Securing a weatherproof venue and sufficient parking was the start-point and we got lucky, as we did with solving late permissions wrangles and the weather during the week and on the day. Fortunately, Nesscliffe Village hall is an excellent event centre (even if they do sometimes turn off the water unexpectedly!)
A number of local landowners and farmers very kindly assisted us with the additional hard-standing required for up to 200 cars. Thanks are due to all of them.
Mr Brisbourne, Broomhill Farm (for track access to the wood and overflow parking)
Mr Rob Jones (Nesscliffe Hotel parking area)
Nesscliffe Garage (coach parking)
Mr Chris Maddocks (farm shop parking area)
Well done to everyone for following the complex parking plan and allowing just sufficient space for E.O.D. guests to also turn up to enjoy the event.
Also, thanks to Podium Catering (Karen and Allen) and Ultrasport (Andy) for turning up to support the food and gear-heads.
We hope that you enjoyed yourselves and well done to the club teams that qualified and now proceed to the finals of both competitions. These take place in late autumn on Cannock Chase.
Those of you that fancy another map-based run around on Nesscliffe Hill, Wrekin do stage small training events there once a year and there is a very popular POC to try (maps available from the village shop/garage)
Lost property: One purple bum-bag, contents sweaty kit and a chewy-bar.
